Praised for her “poetic and electric, warm and seductive” playing, Indonesian Chinese-American pianist Aileen Gozali has dazzled audiences world-wide, including China, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States. She made her concerto debut at the age of 10 and had since then appeared as a soloist with the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra, the Cleveland Music Institute Orchestra, the Xiamen Music Academy Orchestra, The Napolinova Youth Orchestra, the University of Alcante Orchestra and the Yayasan Musik Jakarta Orchestra.
Gozali is a laureate of numerous international competitions, including the 8th International Chopin Piano Competition in Japan, the 1st ASEAN International Concerto Competition in Indonesia, the 3rd ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition in Malaysia, the IIYM International Piano Competition in Kansas, Young Pianist Competition in Singapore, and the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition. She has also performed in prestigious venues all over, including Carnegie Hall, the Esplanade in Singapore, and the Aula Simfonia Concert Hall in Jakarta. She will be giving her Carnegie Hall Debut solo recital on September 23rd 2017 at Weil Recital Hall.
Aside from her solo piano repertoire, Gozali is also an active chamber musician. She was selected to participate in the highly selective Advance Piano Trio Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music directed by Sharon Robinson and was coached by Leon Fleisher, Gil Kalish, Jamie Laredo, and many others. She had also participated in chamber festivals, most recently the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival in East Carolina.
Aside from music, Gozali is passionate about community service. She was a Child Life volunteer at the Rainbow Children Hospital and a tutor volunteer at the Saturday Tutoring Program at the Church of the Covenant in Cleveland, Ohio. She had also volunteered at the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center in California, Chao Yang Special School in Singapore, the Singapore National University Hospital, and Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
Gozali was born in Los Angeles, CA to Indonesian-Chinese parents in 1995. She began her piano studies at the age of 5 after moving to Gulangyu, China, and was enrolled at the Xiamen Music School at age 7. She continued her studies in Singapore from 2007-2011. In 2015 she received her Bachelors Degree in Piano Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music and was the recipient of The Dr. Joseph and Bess Scharff Leven Prize in Piano. Her past teachers include Fang Guo, Runyu Hou, Xiaoqi Li, Benjamin Loh, and Antonio Pompa-Baldi. Gozali recently completed her Masters degree at The Juilliard School studying under the guidance of Robert McDonald. She is currently pursuing her Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical studies at The School of General Studies of Columbia University.
